About Ahoy Club

We sit on your side of the table.

Ahoy Club is a superyacht house that sells, charters, refits and manages yachts, founded by the Malouf family of Sydney. We live on our own boats for more than half of every year, we have rebuilt two of them with our own hands, and every piece of advice we give has already cost us money first.

The story so far

Turned away at the door in 2018. Leading the charge by 2026.

Tap a year, swipe, or let it run.

Sydney Harbour at dawn

1980s

Where it starts

Ian leaves school at 18 and buys a truck. Larissa is already beside him.

Ian and Larissa have been side by side since they were teenagers, and they build Dial A Dump together from one truck into the largest privately owned waste management business in Australia, with the largest recycling and construction materials plant in the Southern Hemisphere. Forty years of thousands of engines and hundreds of machines, every one serviced on a schedule, and a family raised on the principle that you turn up and do the work. Sydney Harbour is the weekend the whole way through.

A superyacht is heavy machinery that happens to float. Run it like a fleet and it behaves.

MISCHIEF with her watertoys deployed

2000s

The family boat

A 72ft Princess, then a 54m Baglietto called MISCHIEF.

Weekends become seasons. The family steps up from harbour boating to a 72ft Princess and, in 2015, to the 54m Baglietto MISCHIEF, the yacht that becomes their floating dinner table and the reason they start noticing everything the charter industry gets wrong. Then, as now, the Maloufs spend more than half of every year living on board.

You cannot advise on a lifestyle you have not lived. We have lived this one since childhood.

Ellie Malouf in the family yard

2010s

Learning every job

Ellie starts at Dial A Dump door knocking with bins.

Then the trucks. Then the yard, with the machinery and the motors. Then customer service, then finance, then shadowing Ian across the whole operation. Six years building the systems, sitting close to every customer and learning the technical side from the ground up. When the family decides to fix yachting, Ahoy Club is started from Ellie's desk at Dial A Dump.

Nobody handed us this industry. We learned every job from the bottom, then built our own.

The Ahoy Club team on the docks

2018

The idea

Ian sells most of Dial A Dump and puts the family's focus on the water.

The same year, owners who had chartered the world start the company they wanted to hire. Years of owning MISCHIEF and chartering globally had shown the family a process that was slow, opaque and stacked against owners and guests alike. Ian and Ellie launch Ahoy Club in Sydney to give owners a better experience of their own boats, with Ellie running the business day to day. Ian keeps an interest in the waste industry; the focus is now maritime. The established houses are not thrilled: that first season we were turned away at the door of boat shows we now exhibit at.

Get people on the right yacht and the money follows. Put them on the wrong one and you lose them for life.

Story to come

Ian or Ellie: the day you were turned away at the door of a boat show. Who said no, what you did next, and how it felt walking in as exhibitors later.

CORAL OCEAN

We arrive at Monaco as visitors and leave as owners of a 73m Lürssen.

Ian, Larissa and Ellie board CORAL ISLAND at the Monaco Yacht Show: delivered by Lürssen in 1994, conceived by Jon Bannenberg, one of his defining masterpieces and a design so widely imitated it shaped a generation of yachts. They buy her before the show closes, the fastest sale in superyacht history, rename her CORAL OCEAN and leave Monaco on board. The same year the family opens its Double Bay headquarters in Sydney and a European office on the Côte d'Azur.

When you know boats, you know quickly. Decisiveness is a skill, not a risk.

Story to come

Ian: the 72 hours at Monaco 2019. First step on board, the conversation with Larissa and Ellie, the moment you decided, and what happened the morning the show closed.

MISCHIEF in the Whitsundays

2020

Australia's largest

Everyone said we would never get the licence. MISCHIEF is licensed for 155 guests.

We import MISCHIEF to Australia as the largest Australian-flagged commercial superyacht in the country. At the time there was nothing to charter over 40m. She arrives with a new standard of crew, food and service and is now the most chartered superyacht in Australia, working Sydney Harbour, the Whitsundays, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

Markets do not open themselves. Somebody has to bring the boat.

Story to come

The licence fight: who told you it could not be done, what it took to get MISCHIEF certified for 155 guests, and the first charter that proved the market.

Ahoy Days is born

When the world stops travelling, Ellie builds Ahoy Days.

With international charter paused, Ellie starts a day charter business on Sydney Harbour and finds there is no platform anywhere that lets you book a boat for a day direct. So she builds one, in house: live calendars, live pricing, instant payment, automated run sheets. Ahoy Days is now our bread and butter, with more than 500 boats across Australia and the Mediterranean bookable at ahoydays.com. In the same years we grow the owned fleet, take more yachts under management and pass 200 crew on the payroll.

The day charter market was still run by phone and PDF. We are closing that gap.

CORAL OCEAN's rebuilt sun deck

2022

CORAL OCEAN relaunched

The largest owner-run superyacht rebuild ever completed.

A €35 million rebuild, project-managed entirely in house by Ahoy Club with our own contractors rather than a shipyard's programme. The sun deck is completely rebuilt, the interiors transformed and the guest spaces redesigned around contemporary life on the water, all while respecting the Bannenberg pedigree that made her an icon. She relaunches at the Monaco Grand Prix to a season booked back to back and wins Best Rebuild at the 2023 BOAT International World Superyacht Awards.

Spend where guests can see and feel it. Everything else, spend where the surveyor will.

Story to come

One moment from the CORAL OCEAN rebuild: the decision that grew the budget, a night in the shed, or the first time you saw the new sun deck finished.

The Americas

An Americas office, and two yachting families join forces.

Ahoy Club opens in Fort Lauderdale and takes a stake in Ray White Marine alongside the Rodwell family, bringing Ferretti Group brands including Riva, Pershing, Custom Line and CRN, plus Technohull, to Australia and New Zealand. Brokerage, new build, charter, refit and yacht management now sit under one roof on three continents.

MISCHIEF refit

We strip MISCHIEF to bare metal and do it all again.

The same in-house model, our own project team and contractors, applied to the yacht that started it all: a €15 million refit finished six months ahead of schedule and nominated at the 2025 World Superyacht Awards. Having done it twice on our own money, we now run refits and shipyard periods for other owners who want the same control over their budget and their downtime.

Nobody protects an owner's money like another owner.

Lando Norris wins Monaco and celebrates on our deck.

CORAL OCEAN runs all of McLaren's hospitality through the Monaco Grand Prix, the latest chapter in a long-standing relationship. Between ticketed race-week events, sponsor packages and private charters, Ahoy Club has become the superyacht brand people call for Formula 1. No traditional brokerage house does this. We do it every season.

Now

Qantas picks us. Then €150M of superyachts to market in one week.

Ahoy Club becomes the exclusive yachting partner of Qantas Frequent Flyer, the only yachting company anywhere with a full points partnership with an airline, and the trust of Australia's most recognised brand. Months later we list more than €150M of central-agency stock in a single week and bring CORAL OCEAN, refitted again this year, to the Monaco Yacht Show for sale, the show that once would not let us through the door. Four offices, 200 crew, one family, and the same rules as day one: owners first, hands on, never stop.

Come and see us on the dock. We will tell you which boats are worth your morning.

Why we exist

Most yacht companies have never paid a crew.

We have. Two hundred of them, on our own yachts. We have run shipyard periods with our own contractors, watched one guest review change a whole season's bookings, and signed the cheque when a stabiliser failed in August. Ahoy Club exists because we could not find anyone giving advice from that seat, so we built the company we wanted to hire.

We are a working family, not a brokerage with a family name on it. We grew up on trucks and boats, we still turn up in work boots for a shipyard period, and we write our own software rather than wait for someone else to. We never stop.

In our first year we were turned away at the door of boat shows. This month we walk into Monaco with a 73m Lürssen. Owners first. Then everything else.

  • We know boats.
  • We know the places.
  • We know the people.
  • We have opinions.
  • We get our hands dirty.
  • We build our own tech.
  • And we enjoy every minute.

The family

Two parents, five kids and a very long dinner table.

Ahoy Club is run by the Maloufs and the people they have gathered around them in Sydney, the Côte d'Azur and Fort Lauderdale. Ian and Larissa have been side by side since they were teenagers, through every truck and every boat. Ian founded Ahoy Club with Ellie, who went on to found Ahoy Days. Jack and Lara run charter. Ed and Max run the family's waste and recycling business and still turn up for the boat.

We were raised to work hard, say what we think and look after the people around us. We argue about anchorages, we swap crew notes over dinner, and we spend more of the year on the water than in the office.

The stories behind the business

The boats that taught us the business.

Every service we sell started as a story on one of these decks: the fastest sale in superyacht history, a rebuild the industry said could not be done in house, a market opened with one boat. Ours, or entrusted to us. This is where the opinions come from.
